Now the humming had reached a crescendo, drawing him nearer and nearer to an altar-like column of rock in the center of the chamber. He saw that this was the source of the light. The humming beat in his head and he felt himself moving toward the upright rock. Grabbing at a column covered with drawings of giant birds and plumed serpents, Dan braced his feet and yelled in defiance. He heard himself screaming as he was pulled downward into a vortex behind the altar.
