Sylvester Gale, shipwrecked on the west coast of Africa, discovers a long lost
civilization and finds himself back there, but unable to interact; when the
civilization’s scientists manage to set off a lava explosion, Gale is thrown forward,
but overshoots his original time of 1944 by 13 years.
