Eventually Parker will get a time-travel opportunity to save his father and stop his mother from remarrying the lazy step-father, but not until the second book or later. In the first book, Parker must deal with the high-school bully, a well-written crush on a cheerleader, and a time travel setup that has him meet other time travelers who are given mysterious missions to complete.
