Asleep at the Wheel

Walking the Floor over You

by Ernest Tubbs, covered by Asleep at the Wheel

Both the original release by Ernest Tubb himself and this cover by Asleep at the Wheel deserve a spot in your iPod, but which do you think we place in the top spot? Could it be the Tubb original which launched the entirety of honky-tonk? Or would it be Asleep at the Wheel’s 1988 cover where frontman Ray Benson lets it slip that he’s a time traveler?

INDEXER NOTES (SPOILERS!)
 • Title Capitalization—We claim that “over” in this particular title is a preposition, similar to saying “I’m very worried about my brother.” [Note: “about” in this example is marked as a preposition in the Cambridge DIctionary.] In this song, it’s more like “I'm very distraught over you,” or “I'm walking the floor over you!” This differs from “Watching Over You” in which case the “Over” is capitalized as part of the compound verb “Watching Over.” That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it.
