I read the English translation from Châteaureynaud’s collection, A Life on Paper
(2010). The story tells of a man who returns to occupied France during World War II on the
morning that his mother was killed by an errant bomb. I enjoyed the writing, but was
unsatisfied with the ending.
You’re Jean-Jacques Manoir, aren’t you? Right? You don’t know me, but I know all
about you.
